Opening the brown envelope always makes me nervous.
The last two weeks of the summer are often filled with surprises, and the biggest one for people my age is normally opening their results. Walking into school, collecting the piece of paper that can make or break your dreams. And why does it have to be a Thursday (╥_╥)
With that depressing note out of the way, no matter what you’ve got in your results today, be proud of yourself. Don’t look down on yourself if you didn’t get exactly the grades you want, or didn’t make it into your aspirational university. If you put your 100% effort in, then nothing else really matters.
Now we have our results…
Here are some useful resources you might want to check out.
- The grade boundaries for every exam board: AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC, and CIE links.
- If you’re in Y13, you might want to check out clearing and the applications FAQ.
- Remember to contact any universities/teachers/interested parties about your results if you have to! (Then come back to read this blog post, of course…)
How did the results go around the UK?
The information in this section can be found at this BBC Live page and FFT Education page.
Overall, grades slightly improved this year compared to last year, which is nice to see. Some were worried that this was a result of grade inflation, but the head of Ofqual stated that this was because the general performance of the cohort was just better. So well done to this year’s Y13s for that!
It also can be seen below that there has been an increase in STEM subjects being taken for A-level this year, whereas some social sciences, languages and other humanities have fallen in popularity. These change every year though.
And finally, it appears that grades have finally returned back to relatively 2019 levels, with the effect of Covid on grades having worn off. No more teacher predicted grades inflating A* percentages (︶︹︺)
What did I get?
I ended up getting an A in Mathematics and Computer Science, and a B in Further Mathematics and Music Tech for all my AS exams. Here’s a further breakdown of my marks as of current:

- Total: 138/160 [A]
Computer Science [OCR]
- Computing Principles: 51/70
- Algorithms: 62/70
- Total: 113/140 [A]
Further Mathematics [Edexcel]
- Core Pure Mathematics: 53/80
- Further Pure Mathematics: 24/40
- Further Mechanics: 27/40
- Total: 104/160 [B]
Music Technology [Edexcel]

A summarised version of this will end up on the academics page shortly. Hopefully I continue this success into next year!
Thanks for reading, and I’ll see you in the next one.
